Black Panthers Intimidate Voters at 300+ Locations

Published by marcand under People Buzz Edit This

It has come to the attention of many via the mainstream media that there is perhaps some issue with the Black Panthers using possible intimidation at polling locations (i.e., showing up in full uniform with billy clubs and claiming to be ’security’) in Philadelphia.  However, according to one Kansas City source , they have apparently shown up in over 300 polling locations, specifically targeting battleground states.  It looks as though this may be getting addressed in some areas, but I don’t know if all areas will be able to suppress this illegal intimidation.  C’mon guys … is this really the way you want your candidate to win?  My prediction for tomorrow?  President Obama and rioting … in a city somewhere near you!

Saddam Hussein’s Luxury Yacht

Published by marcand under People Buzz Edit This

screenhunter_-nov-0306.jpgSaddam Hussein’s luxury yacht, the Ocean Breeze, is now up for sale.  It was up for sale last year, but a dispute over who has legal ownership of the yacht broke out between the Iraqi government and a yacht broker.  Now, apparently, the dispute is over and the Iraqi government will be getting the proceeds from the sale of the yacht.  So what is the Ocean Breeze like, and what will you get for the money?  Well, let’s just take a look.  The yacht is 270 feet long, decorated throughout with mahogany, silver, gold, marble and anything you can think of that’s fitting for a middle-eastern dictator.  Of course that means a shatter-proof glass atrium, health clinic, helicopter landing pad and a mini-submarine pod - you know - in the event an emergency exit was needed.  With a crew of 35 and room to sleep 28 guests comfortably on board, this is a boat to rival any private yacht on the planet.  Although Saddam Hussein’s luxury yacht is a site to behold, its extravagance strikes a stark contrast to the lifestyle of the Iraqi citizens in his own country.  Oh, one more thing I almost forgot … the asking price … $35 million.  Here’s a few more pictures for you to check out…

Thriller Video

Published by marcand under Internet Zeitgeist Edit This

Well, Halloween just wouldn’t be the same without all of the modern hoopla, right?  In a way, this video is modern, but it’s a classic from a video point-of-view.  What am I blabbering on about?  None other than the video “Thriller” by Michael Jackson himself.  You can’t go through the Halloween weekend without contemplating and viewing this video at least once, can you?  If you are a youngster and have never seen this, it’s worth watching.  It was produced by Michael Jackson himself back in 1982 at a cost of $800,000 and runs just under 14 minutes.  So sit back and check out the full-length version of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.  Don’t be scared!

Obama TV

Published by marcand under People Buzz Edit This

obama-channel.jpgI would be remiss if I failed to document one of the biggest buzz terms I’ve ever seen since I’ve been watching daily Internet trends.  Tonight Barack Obama appeared on six major television networks with a thirty minute “infomercial” special, being touted across the Internet as the “Obama Infomercial”.  While that is all good and well (and you can see the Obama infomercial in its entirety here ), what some are unaware of is the recent addition to the Dish Satellite Network’s line-up of the Obama channel, number 73.

Yes, check out the picture, it’s authentic.  I’ve got the Dish Network, I should know.  What’s amazing to me is that everyone is fawning over tonight’s Obama infomercial and hardly anyone has been talking about this Dish thing.  The infomercial reportedly cost $4 million.  So how much does it cost to rent a satellite channel around the clock for 35 days?  I have no idea, and apparently no one else does either, because I couldn’t find any figures on it.  However, I’m sure it cost just a tad bit more than the infomercial.  Will be interesting to see if this figure ever sees the light of day.

Personally I can’t wait until November 5th!  The election will be over and the Obama channel will be gone from my satellite TV line-up.

Wassup!

Published by marcand under Internet Zeitgeist Edit This

This will have you laughing your rear end off!  In 1999 Budweiser aired one of their most famous commercials, featuring a group of guys hanging around watching football and drinking beer.  “Wassup” was their greeting, and people picked up on that and ran with it.  Now, it’s eight years later and these guys are going through the same crap as the rest of us.  The new commercial has a serious message (and it’s not by Budweiser, just to clarify), but it is also very funny.  Check it out and see what you think:

Pride and Glory

Published by marcand under Movie Buzz Edit This

The new movie Pride and Glory hits the box office tonight. At first glance this film may appear to be just another good cop, bad cop, police corruption story, I think it definitely has some twists that make it work checking out. Directed by Gavin O’Connor (who’s father was a police officer), the film stars Edward Norton, Colin Farrel and John Voight. The film was originally scheduled for release on March 14th of this year, but New Line Cinema has kept us waiting to build up suspense (ok, that’s probably not the real reason). Anyway, check out this trailer for the movie, then go see it! I predict it will make a definite impact on the box office revenues this weekend.

CNNBC Video: Obama’s Loss Traced to … me?

Published by marcand under Internet Zeitgeist Edit This

According to a CNNBC.com exclusive video, the outcome of the 2008 presidential election was tipped by one voter: yours truly.  Sorry to admit it folks, but it looks like my habit of sleeping in led to an outcome that many people are disappointed about:

Obviously this video is just a prank.  The website is sponsored by Moveon.org, a political action organization supporting Barack Obama.  Just for the record, I’m not supporting either candidate, because I think they both stink.  I think the system is broken and all you are getting is the choice of heads or tails on the same defective currency.  I believe we do need change, but I don’t think either on of these jokers represent it.  Anyway, if you want to see what all the hubub is about and play this prank on your own friends, feel free to visit the website and blame them all for the outcome of the yet-to-come election!

Doomsday Clock

Published by marcand under Internet Zeitgeist Edit This

The Doomsday Clock is in humming in the buzz of the interwebs today.  Interestingly enough, nothing new has happened to the clock.  Perhaps a political pundit somewhere speculated that the clock would move following a McCain win in the 2008 Presidential Election, but I think that is highly unlikely.  There are much more pressing matters to consider, such as the current financial fiasco, Palin’s wardrobe, etc.

The Doomsday clock was created in 1947 and has been maintained by the board of directors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.  The function of the clock is basically to tell us how close we are to an atomic (now nuclear, read “new-clear”) destruction of planet Earth.  Currently the clock is at five minutes until midnight (which corresponds with the annihilation of our planet).  Interestingly enough, the clock has actually been as close as two minutes until midnight, in 1953.  So what the heck, elect McCain or Obama … it’s all good.  We’ve got a few minutes to spare!

MySpace US: Beaten by Facebook?

CC 2.0 license by vlauria on Flickr: Palo Alto offices of MeeboWell, lots of stuff circulating the Internet today and making a buzz … but my pick of the day is this spectacular story: MySpace US in being surpassed by Facebook. Can it be true? According to this report over on NME it is. According to this story, Facebook currrently has 132 million members, making it the largest social networking site on the Internet. Interestingly enough, according to another report from the Toronto Star back in March, the site only boasted 67 million users. Could it be possible for the site to draw that many new users in only six months? Of course the challenges that are facing MySpace US can be seen by noting that they have recently added the use of third party applications on their site. This was a major draw of Facebook over MySpace, which MySpace has attempted to play catch-up on. Based on today’s reports, it appears it may have been too little, too late!
